Overview

The Kalkomat Shark is a fully waterproof, coin-operated air hockey table built for outdoor and high-traffic indoor venues, available in 6-foot and 8-foot configurations. The polycarbonate construction — perforated playfield, framed top rail, and side barriers — is sealed against weather and rated for permanent outdoor installation. An onboard display tracks credits, player scores, and remaining game time simultaneously, and the table fires light and sound effects throughout each match.

Key Features

Fully Waterproof Polycarbonate Construction

The playing surface is a perforated polycarbonate panel engineered to allow airflow while resisting moisture. The top frame enclosing the playfield is also polycarbonate, as are the barriers on both sides and the center divider. This material choice is what separates the Shark from standard indoor-only air hockey — every surface that contacts weather or splash is sealed for it.

Full-Table LED Illumination

LEDs are embedded in two locations: within the playfield itself, lighting the perforated surface from below, and separately in the legs. The top frame around the playfield also carries its own lighting system. All three zones illuminate during play, making the table visible and readable in outdoor light or low-light evening environments.

Onboard Scoring Display

A digital score display is mounted at each player position. The display shows the current credit count, points accumulated, and time remaining in the active game — all three values updating in real time. Operators can configure the table for token operation; 100 tokens are included when the unit ships in token-programmed mode.

260W Air Pump with Two Power States

The onboard air pump draws 260W and generates the playing surface cushion during active games. Power consumption shifts between two states: 60W in demo mode (table powered, no active game) and 390W in game mode (pump running at full output). This two-state draw allows the table to stay energized between plays without running the pump continuously.

Available Upgrade Options

The Shark supports three factory-listed upgrades: an additional banknote acceptor, an additional coin acceptor, and a ticket dispenser. These options allow operators to configure payment and redemption to match the specific demands of a venue without altering the base cabinet.

How It Plays

Players take positions at opposite ends of the illuminated polycarbonate surface and use mallets to drive pucks across the cushion of air generated by the 260W pump. Light and sound effects trigger during the game, and each player's score updates live on the dedicated digital display at their end. From the side, bystanders see both the backlit perforated playfield and the lit legs simultaneously — the full table reads as active even from a distance.

Why Operators Love It

Outdoor-Rated Cabinet Opens New Placement Locations

Standard air hockey tables are restricted to covered, climate-controlled interiors. The Shark's waterproof polycarbonate construction allows permanent installation in covered outdoor venues — patios, pavilions, pool decks — where a conventional table would fail. The outdoor rating is built into the materials, not added as a cover or enclosure.

Low Idle Power Draw

In demo mode, the table draws only 60W — the LEDs and display stay active while the pump idles. The full 390W game-mode draw only engages when a credit is inserted and a game begins. For locations where the table sits powered throughout operating hours, the two-state consumption keeps idle electrical costs measurable and predictable.

Flat-Pack Profile Simplifies Freight and Venue Entry

Both the 6-foot and 8-foot models ship on the same 19-inch-tall pallet profile despite the significant difference in footprint. That low shipping height fits standard freight pallets and passes through most venue doorways flat, reducing the complexity of delivery regardless of which size an operator selects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Kalkomat Shark Air Hockey table truly waterproof for permanent outdoor use?

Yes. The playing surface, top frame, and side barriers are all polycarbonate — a material selected specifically for moisture resistance. The Shark is designed for outdoor installation, distinguishing it from standard air hockey tables built only for indoor environments.

What accessories are included with the Kalkomat Shark?

Each unit ships with 4 mallets and 6 pucks. Units configured for token operation also include 100 tokens. Both the 6-foot and 8-foot models include the same accessory package.

What upgrade options are available for the Kalkomat Shark?

Kalkomat lists three factory upgrades for the Shark: a banknote acceptor, a coin acceptor, and a ticket dispenser. These are configured at the factory level and allow operators to match payment and redemption capability to their specific venue setup.

What does the onboard display show during a game?

The display tracks three values simultaneously: the number of credits loaded, the current point totals for each player, and the time remaining in the active game. Each player position has its own dedicated digital display panel.

Ideal Placement

The Kalkomat Shark fits covered outdoor spaces at restaurants, bar and tavern game areas with exterior seating, hotel pool decks, resort entertainment areas, and miniature golf or go-kart venues with pavilion space. Indoors, the 6-foot model at 78 x 42 in slots into smaller FEC game rooms, bowling center arcades, and pizzeria game areas where floor space is limited. The 8-foot model at 94 x 51 in suits dedicated arcade floors, trampoline park game zones, and any venue with a full-size air hockey footprint available.
